Bing Webmaster Tools: The “Forgotten” Search Engine

Fun fact:

8% of searches happen on Bing.

That’s 874,000,000 every day.

A number that has consistently grown over the last decade:

Better still…
The traffic from Bing is often higher quality than Google’s.

Let’s make sure you’re ready to get traffic from this sleeping giant…

How To Setup Bing Webmaster Tools

Head to the Bing Webmaster Tools website.

Sign up for an account using either:

  • Microsoft
  • Google
  • Facebook

Then add your URL to the “My Sites” tool:

You’ll then need to submit your site information:

You’ll then be asked to verify your site using:

  • An XML file
  • Meta tags
  • Adding CNAME to your DNS records

The final stage is to add your “Connected Pages” which is a heavily underused feature in Bing Webmaster Tools (most people don’t know it exists).

These are off-site pages you own like:

  • Social media profiles
  • App store pages

Bing Webmaster Tools allows you to see:

  • How often these pages appear
  • Your click-through rate

Which can help you to optimise the traffic these pages receive.
